The Tale of Sweeney Todd
Dec. 23rd, 2007 04:53 pmSo, we went to see Sweeney Todd today. I am glad I did copious reading of A.O. Scott's reviews and the various bits the NY Times had (including a series of things Stephen Sondheim himself had put together about what he'd had to cut for the translation to film.) It meant I was properly prepared and in a good frame of mind to appreciate the film for the film's sake.
And enjoy it I did.
I don't feel I need to say more that that; no spoilers here (except a mention that though Anthony Stewart Head is sort of in the film, his is a one-line cameo; nobody should have their hopes up about that.)
I'd be happy to discuss in painful detail with anyone else after they've seen it. For now, my impressions are still coalescing.
For those who are not already aware, by the by, Sweeney Todd is my favorite-ever musical. Which is saying a lot, as I am a big fan of the genre.
