Thirteen years
May. 22nd, 2007 10:48 pmThirteen years ago I participated in my first and last magic spell, and sealed my life with Christopher's.
Thirteen years ago,
dr_memory wanted to come hang out with the girls doing prep, and did. HIs hair was longer than most of ours', anyway.
Christopher,
lleaf and others were badly underslept. We were all picking pine needles off of us after a night spent drinking and singing and sitting around the fire for warmth in the enchanted forest of Labyrinth. It was perfect spring weather, and the lilacs were blooming. We were ready.
Nobody had brought me things borrowed or blue so I borrowed Annette's blue underwear and wore it over my own underwear.
Which left her with no underwear.
Later she climbed trees in her silk dress and no undies; still sad I had not let her wear armor down the aisle.
Four groomsmen, seven bridal attendants, one bride and one groom, and there was only one handkerchief, brought by
woldkill. It was passed around amongst the six bridesmaids, but the maid of honor (
sailorcat) and I got nothing.
minna_bromberg sang, and sang beautifully.
We were blessed by a woman named Miriam. It was her third wedding (performing the ceremony, that is). She wished on us yellow corn and blue corn and red corn and corn of many colors. (Wish I could find a copy of that text -- it was a native American wedding blessing of some sort.) I still smile when I eat corn.
When it was over, Christopher and I danced up the aisle to Linus and Lucy. Wagner had been banned from the ceremony for being racist, but Mendelssohn had not, and the first few bars morphed into Guaraldi. Everyone danced out of the music hall/chapel at Simon's Rock where we held the ceremony.
Too many tables in the sun; everyone moved their tables around on the grass, seeking shade.
Billy had written us a song, and sang it. He and the others of my parents' generation were so happy to see all my friends there.
The 'wedding crashers' table was filled.
We had a cake covered with flowers, and despite my mother's predictions, the world did not end just because nobody served salmon at a marginally Jewish wedding.
We danced the hora to Hypnotic Clambake. I do still have
mr_privacy's CD, yes. Woops.
Much wine was drunk. Some of it was drunk naked in green river, though not by me.
I was lucky. So, so lucky. Surrounded by love.
I still am.
